Meet Future Dr.Gomez
When I was 16 years old, I decided I wanted to become an orthodontist (although I am more of an Endo stan these days…) and since then, I haven’t looked back.
I am a second-year Mexican-American dental student from Chicago who loves cats, teeth, and the color blue.
Join me on my journey to DDS through Chasing Dr.Gomez!

In the mind of me.
Although I may scream dentist, I’m actually a writer at heart. I began writing short stories when I was in 4th grade, and from then on I fell in love with how cathartic pouring out my heart, mind, and soul could be. What was even more exhilarating was that I had complete control over my words and how I used them to depict the beauty of my soul and mind.
Book Recs
Anita De Monte Laughs Last
- Xóchitl González

A wonderfully written story about a Cuban artist Anita and her relationship with her husband artist jack. The author is an Iowa writers workshop alumni, so I find comfort in her work as another passionate, determined and misunderstood Latina woman
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - Rebecca Skloot

Raising awareness on how racism is still alive and well in science especially in stem biology.
Teeth - Mary Otto

A super captivating look at oral health disparities that can explain the ins and outs in a simple, yet insuring way, that everyone can understand.

MY CREATIONS
My podcast Dentista Diaries focuses on my life as a dental student, but outside of the classroom aspect. It’s a chance for me to use my platform to share underrepresented stories and experiences to the dental community. I also like to vent about my experience as a first generation Latina dental student and future dentist.
My other content, Dental School Notes, is more classroom and study oriented. I record myself reading study guides/ notes and explaining certain concepts in depth. I like to relisten to them as I go about my day. I’ll tune in when I’m going for walks or driving or even doing the laundry- just so that I don’t feel bad about not being ”productive”
(I swear, I’m still a type B student).

TODAY'S INSPIRED YOUNG LATINA VOL. IV
Today’s Inspired Young Latina is a series that aims to inspire young Latina women to follow their dreams. My short piece “La Pequeña Dentista Que Sí Pudo” (The Little Dentist Who Could) was written when I just graduated undergrad in 2022. I speak about my journey as an aspiring dentist as the first one in my family to go into higher ed.
